Pool and Open Water Coaching in the Cairngorms

SwimWild is taking a break from running trips/retreats/events and workshops between Autumn 2023 and Spring/Summer 2024 due to Alice being on maternity leave.

Alice Goodridge

Your coach

Alice is an ASA Level 2 swimming teacher and STA Level 2 Open Water Swimming coach with years of experience teaching and coaching swimmers of all ages and abilities in the pool and in open water. Alice loves introducing people to the joys of swimming outdoors and helping people achieve their goals.  

An accomplished long-distance and ice swimmer, Alice has completed numerous solo endurance swims, including swimming the English Channel and lengths of Loch Lomond and Loch Awe. She has also competed internationally in winter and ice swimming competitions and has completed an IISA ice mile. 

Alice holds up-to-date RLSS lifesaving and first aid qualifications.

Front Crawl Technique Workshop

Location: Abernethy Swimming Pool, Nethybridge, Inverness-shire, PH25 3ED

Come and join SwimWild’s experienced coach Alice Goodridge for a day focused on learning efficient front crawl technique – including body position, rotation, breathing, stroke timing and catch. Breaking the stroke down into stages, Alice will give live drill demonstrations and work with you individually and as part of the group, filming each stage for the video feedback sessions.

Starting at 10:00 and finishing at around 16:00 the day includes the following –

2 x pool sessions
2 x video feedback sessions
Lunch

After the workshop, you will also be sent personalised video footage for the day, with commentary and analysis to watch in your own time.

Introduction to Open Water Swimming Course

Location: Loch Insh Outdoor Centre, Kincraig, PH21 1NU

Would you like to get into open water swimming? If the answer is YES, then this course is for you! Our Introduction to Open Water Swimming course is a great way to start your outdoor swimming journey. With small groups and friendly, experienced coaches, we make it easy for you to get into the water and start loch swimming!

The course runs for approximately 2 hours and includes both dry land and in-water sessions –

  • Welcome & safety briefing
  • Breathing basics
  • Water entry & acclimatization
  • Staying safe in the water
  • Sighting & basic open-water skills
  • Debrief session
  • Post-swim hot drinks
