A fun weekend of wild swimming in the beautiful Cairngorms National Park. The gathering will be held in the grounds of Inshriach House (PH22 1QP) a couple of miles south of Aviemore, on the banks of the River Spey.

What is the SwimWild Highland Gathering?

The best way to describe the SWHG is a mini wild swimming festival in the Highlands.

It is also –

An end of season party
A gathering of like-minded swimmers/dippers from around Scotland (and further afield!)
A great mixture of exploring and socialising

It is NOT a fully guided swimming holiday. The main Gathering site is in the grounds of Inshriach Estate, with camping and a lovely swim spot on the River Spey. Other swims are organised at different locations around the area, and you will be required to get between locations under your own steam (car sharing is encouraged!)

Alice has been running the Gathering at Inshriach since 2017 (with a break in 2020, for obvious reasons). Although the event has grown over the years we have decided to limit numbers in 2022 to keep it small. We are not trying to be a big festival. We want everyone to enjoy themselves, meet new people and swim in unique places!

Will it rain? Possibly
Will it snow? Hopefully not in early October, but you never know!
Will the be Dryrobe dancing? Of course!
Will there be cake? Hell yes, and plenty of it!

NEW FOR 2022 – Yoga With Carrie Wilde

We are very excited to be able to offer Yoga Passes for morning and afternoon yoga sessions in the Inshraich Barn with the wonderful Carrie Wilde. These will be a mixture of welcoming yoga sessions, with tension release work to increase mobility and confidence, and relax and restore sessions, helping you to totally unwind.

Morning and Afternoon yoga passes can be purchased alongside your main weekend tickets.

Can’t make it to the whole weekend, can I come for just part of it?

This year, we have decided to keep numbers low and will only sell full weekend tickets and not individual day tickets. The exception to this is the Saturday evening when you can buy a ticket just to come to Pizza/Gin party. All options are bookable online. If you can’t arrive until Saturday morning or need to leave on Sunday afternoon/evening, that is no problem. Please still purchase a full weekend ticket.

Can I stay on-site?

YES! There are accommodation options available on-site – cosy rooms in the main house, glamping and camping. More information on each of these options can be found in the sections below.

All on-site accommodation options are available to book online when you buy your ticket.

Camping

Camping (own tent or campervan) £15 per night. You will be able to pre-pay for this when you buy your ticket.

There is plenty of space for camping. The camping field is basic (it is a field!)

Please note that the track to get to the camping field is solid but fairly bumpy. You are welcome to drive cars and camper vans down to the camping area or leave cars up at the main parking area closer to the road.

There will be portaloos down by the camping area and a gas-powered outdoor shower a short walk to the middle of the site is shared with all the other spaces on site.

Camper vans

Camper vans are welcome, but please note that the camping field is down a long, rough track, around 800m from the road. Unfortunately, due to a steep section of track, the camping area is NOT suitable for larger camper vans and caravans.

Food

Food will be available in the evenings during the gathering but only Friday night food will be included in the ticket price. Other meals are up to you. There are plenty of great locals cafes etc.

Evening meals –

  • Friday evening – BBQ down by the river (induced in ticket price). BYO drinks
  • Saturday evening – Pizzas and Gin Bar (also serves other drinks)

Sunday afternoon –

  • Relaxed DIY BBQ by the river. We’ll fire up the BBQ, you BYO drinks and food to cook
Kit

What kit do I need to bring with me?

  • Swimming kit! Including neoprene socks or swim footwear. Some of the entries are pretty stony/rocky so it is much easier if you have some protection on your feet.
  • Warm kit for between swims. Essential! Remember to bring a woolly hat.
  • A flask for hot drinks.
  • A torch, preferably a head torch. The main gathering area by the river is a good 800m walk from the house/camping/parking.
  • Waterproofs. If it is anything like previous years, it WILL rain, so be ready!
  • Sturdy footwear. Some of the swim spots require a lengthy walk to get to. Make sure you have good walking boots if you want to do some of the more off the beaten track swims.
  • Cash for extra meals and drinks.
  • Camera!

What are you waiting for?
